status codes are not evidence

Every DOI here went through the Crossref REST API, and the authors, title, venue, year, volume, issue and pages printed below are whatever Crossref returned for that DOI, compared against the claim being made. Then every link was requested, to confirm it resolves.

An earlier pass found six DOIs that returned HTTP 200 and resolved to entirely different papers, so a working link was never treated as a correct one. Where a source has no DOI — a museum record, a conference protocol, a publisher's catalogue page — the page itself was read and the fact taken from it.

Three links point somewhere other than a publisher's DOI landing page, because those publishers refuse automated requests: Wittmann 2009 goes to its open-access copy at PubMed Central, Thompson to its JSTOR record, and Dalí's painting to the museum that holds it. The DOIs are printed in full beside the first two.

The two ADHD papers report group differences on laboratory tasks. Neither is a diagnostic test, and neither went anywhere near a timer app. They back the premise that a clock is a poor instrument for felt duration. Whether the timer in the shop helps anybody is not something that can be cited.

Rejected. Dalí's The Persistence of Memory (1931) is in copyright and belongs to the Museum of Modern Art; it is named, described and linked in room 08 and is reproduced nowhere here72. Muybridge's [Boys Playing Leap Frog] (Met object 268638) is public domain and was downloaded, then dropped: the subjects are nude children, which is not something to put on a web page, and the horse plate carries the same argument. Photographs of Harrison's marine timekeepers were looked for and not used, because the surviving photographs found were modern images under share-alike or unstated terms rather than public domain; Berthoud's regulator stands in for the precision era instead.
